How Dialogue: When movie is no longer movie – Premiere of JU Anqi’s Two Movies and After-Show Lecture
On October 21 (Saturday), JU Anqi’ two movies, Poet on a Business Trip and Big Characters, were played at HOW Art Museum.
Poet on a Business Trip (2002-2015 / 103min)
Poet on a Business Trip is another rise-to-fame movie of JU Anqi after There’s A Strong Wind in Beijing. In addition to being played and awarded at several international film festival occasions, the movie, by virtue of its unique aesthetics, also appeared in many renowned artistic places, including New York Lincoln Center, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of South Korea, Guggenheim Museum New York, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art Beijing.
At the scene of the dialogue, Director JU and noted contemporary art scholar Ms. YU Miao, who is also Critic Award winner at Chinese Contemporary Art Awards (CCAA), presented audience an after-show lecture: When Movie is No Longer Movie.

JU Anqi
Born in Urumchi in 1975. Studied movie at the Department of Directing of Beijing Film Academy. He is among those outstanding and eye-catching Chinese new generation film directors and contemporary artists in the world. His works, from experimental image, narrative film, painting to LED lightbox, are rarely seen in Chinese conceptual artistic creation and were exhibited in Centre Georges Pompidou, The Museum of Modern Art New York, New York Guggenheim Museum and other art institutions of international significance.
YU Miao
A scholar studying the art history of 20th century, contemporary artistic curator and practitioner. Her articles, in Chinese or English, were published on the journal of The World Congress of Art History, Artforum International Magazine, LEAP and many other publications. As a curator, for several times, she planned seminars for Asia Art Archive, Guangdong Times Museum and OCAT Xi’an.
In her artistic practice, she tries to present art history narration in her view with images and devices. Her literature Archive Atlas and video series This Isn’t Serious Art: Silent Journey were displayed at Paris Villa Vassilieff, Guangdong Times Museum and Jiangsu Art Museum.
